Jim Shields Photography bio picture
  • Welcome!

Hi there! Thank you for stopping by my photography blog. My name is Jim Shields and I am a wedding and portrait photographer from Sterling Heights, Michigan. Feel free to stalk my blog all you want...let me know you're here by leaving me a comment. My old BLOG is still available to view by clicking the “Blogroll” above and I can also be found on Facebook by clicking the Facebook logo at the bottom of this page.

For those of you just checking things out, please understand this blog will have some of my professional shots as well as many pictures of family and friends. It is intended to show my clients who I am, what I am all about, and what I have been up to recently. It isn't always going to show off my work, rather show off my family, of whom I am so very proud. If you want to check out my portfolio, please go to my website by clicking the “Web Site” link above.

I now have links to my older slideshows on the menu titled “Pages/Wedding Slideshow Page”. I can also be found on Facebook by searching for my name. Make sure you find this picture of me as there are several of us out there with the same name. I know I’m excited about the direction and speed my company is moving in. Thanks again to all of you, I couldn’t have done it without you. Enjoy!

Mike Larson – Our Guest Speaker at the January Detroit PUG Meeting

It was great to see a bunch of local photogs show up to our Detroit PUG meeting last night. Mike Larson was our guest speaker and did an awesome job. While Mike may be known for his tossing expensive cameras in the air he is much more than that. MIKE LARSON started his career traveling the world in search of exotic locations and amazing surf. Nowadays Mike and his team specialize in destination weddings. Mike mission is to capture the love, the friendship and the beauty inside.

For years Mike’s workshops and lectures have been extremely popular and now he is getting to be in demand, not only for his photography, but also on the speaking tour where he lectures to photographers wanting to learn the craft. His down to earth approach on shooting and brilliant business sense make his seminars truly inspirational to every wedding and portrait photographer. Here are just a few photos of last nights event.

If you are a local photographer in the Detroit area and would like to attend our monthly PUG meetings let me know and I will get you the information on when and where. Next months meeting is all about workflow and how to optimize it so you can spend less time in front of the computer and more time doing what you want to do, take pictures. It will feature a well know photographer from Ann Arbor, Mi, Dustin Francis (shown in the first picture below). Hope to see you there.

Carissa & Alek…e-session

On Friday, January 22, 2010, I met up with Carissa and Alek in Royal Oak to do some engagement pictures. They will be getting married in March of this year and Alek had just flown in from Alaska to help Carissa finalize some wedding plans. Alek is in the Coast Guard in Alaska where the two of them will live after the wedding. It was just a little cold out on Friday but it didn’t stop us from having some fun. After all Alek is probably used to the cold by now. I’m looking forward to their big day coming up very soon. I’m pretty sure it is going to be a blast. Enjoy!

Grosse Pointe’s “Winterfest On The Hill” 2010

For those of you who don’t know me well my wife and I have been following our son, Jim Jr., for over ten years now with his passion for carving ice. In 2000 Jim & his partner Dave Stadler won the National Collegiate Ice Sculpture Competition in Frankenmuth, MI, while he attended Macomb College. His Chef instructor, Chef Jeff Wolf, has been a a great mentor for Jim and still teaches the Ice Sculpture class at Macomb College. I know Deb and I often joke that we wonder why Jim didn’t take up sand sculptures instead of ice. It would have made it a little easier to follow him so much, but we always do. A nice sandy beach would have been nice but oh well, we don’t like to miss any opportunities to spend time with all of our kids. We both feel so proud of our children as they have done very well for themselves and we know how lucky we are to have all of them working in fields they chose and close to us. That’s not very common these days as it seems people have to leave Michigan to find jobs. Here are just a few of the ice sculptures and events that went on in Grosse Pointe for their Winterfest 2010. Enjoy!

Merry CHRISTmas from Jim Shields Photography

Just wanted to take a moment to thank every one of my clients for allowing me to document very special moments in your life. This is something I don’t take lightly and feel so blessed to have had that opportunity, or will in 2010. I am really looking forward to 2010 and all the fun times we will have. I decided to post two pictures with Christmas decorations for my Merry Christmas post. The first picture is from my home church, St. John Lutheran Church, in Fraser, MI, and the second image is from Keri and Bryan’s wedding at the Historic Trinity Lutheran Church last Saturday, which I photographed with Kevin Murawski.

Merry Christmas everyone, and don’t forget the REASON for the SEASON!
