  • Hi there! Thank you for stopping by my photography blog. My name is Jim Shields and I am a wedding and portrait photographer from Sterling Heights, Michigan. Feel free to stalk my blog all you want...let me know you're here by leaving me a comment. My old BLOG is still available to view by clicking the “Blogroll” above and I can also be found on Facebook by clicking the Facebook logo at the bottom of this page.
For those of you just checking things out, please understand this blog will have some of my professional shots as well as many pictures of family and friends. It is intended to show my clients who I am, what I am all about, and what I have been up to recently. It isn't always going to show off my work, rather show off my family, of whom I am so very proud. If you want to check out my portfolio, please go to my website by clicking the “Web Site” link above.

I now have links to my older slideshows on the menu titled “Pages/Wedding Slideshow Page”. I can also be found on Facebook by searching for my name. Make sure you find this picture of me as there are several of us out there with the same name. I know I’m excited about the direction and speed my company is moving in. Thanks again to all of you, I couldn’t have done it without you. Enjoy!

Sheena & Matt | the slideshow

On Saturday, January 7, 2012, my son John and I photographed the wedding of Sheena and Matt at the Country Club of Detroit. We started our day off at the “Salon Awesome” in Plymouth where we had a chance to meet the girls, as well as Mom’s and Grandma. From there we were off to the Country Club for the ceremony and then we took a small detour to a Firehouse in Detroit to get some pictures of the bridal party with the fire trucks. Matt is actually a fireman in Westland but that wasn’t really an option to go all the way to Westland for those pictures so we opted for a Detroit location which was close to the Grosse Pointe War Memorial where the reception was to be held. Once at the War Memorial everyone settled in for some food, beverages and dancing. We would like to thank Sheena and Matt, along with their families, for making the day so enjoyable for us. Best of luck to the two of you.

The Boar’s Head & Yule Log Festival 2011

On Tuesday December 6, 2011 I photographed the dress rehearsal of our annual Boar’s Head and Yule Log Festival, as well as one of the actual performances on December 11, 2011, at our church, St. John Lutheran Church in Fraser, Michigan. This is the fifth year for this production and it continues to be popular with everyone in our church and the community as well. There is no charge for this presentation but we do collect a free will offering to help offset the expenses incurred. To learn more about the history of the actual Boar’s Head Festival you can get more information by clicking HERE. This promises to be one the best productions so far as our music Director, Mel Machemer, continues to add things each year as our budget, and personnel, allows. Merry CHRISTmas and enjoy the show!

NOTE: Sorry for removing the music. Mel is working on getting me a piece to add that can be from the performance itself. Stay tuned.

2011 | What a GREAT Year

Thought I would just post a little video I did of all of our grandchildren. Deb and I were blessed with three more bundles of joy this year. Our oldest grandchild is Princess Norah and next up is Prince Ethan. That’s what it was last year but this year brought twins, Princess Lily & Prince Jack, on July 11, and Princess Elyse on August 8. Yes our family is truly blessed with all of these happy healthy babies. It isn’t very often that kids go to college and then get jobs in the area. I know that for a fact since a lot of my brides are from Michigan who move away after college for their jobs. Not the case with our family, and we a so thankful for that blessing. Here’s all the grandkids for 2011!

Lily & Jack | CHRISTmas 2011

Last Saturday Jim and Jen stopped over for some Christmas photos of Lily and Jack. We actually had a great time and got everyone (including Rocky) in some pictures. It was a good day to take pictures, drink beer and watch U of M beat OSU. Doesn’t get much better than that. Spending time with family while watching TV on the couch.  Christmas 2011 will sure be different than past years but next year will be much more fun with them all running around. Here are few of my favorites from the day.

Anonymous - What GREAT photos. I can’t believe they are so big now. Jen is looking great also.
Thanks for e mailing them to us Jim, really appreciate it.
Love Dad & Gail

The Wedding of Ashley & Jeff | the slideshow

A few weeks ago my son John and I photographed the wedding of Ashley and Jeff in Port Huron, MI. It was a nice sunny day on November 12, 2011, a little chilly but you never know what you will get in Michigan in early November. At least we didn’t have a lot of snow to deal with. We started our day off at the Hotel where they both were getting ready for their big day. From there we were off to Fore Lakes Golf Course for a “First Look” shot and then some bridal party pictures before the ceremony at the First United Methodist Church in Port Huron. After the ceremony we attempted to take a few pictures at the Bluewater Bridge in the pitch dark before heading back to the Fore Lakes Golf Course for the reception. It was a nice day and I got to catch up with a few of my past brides while at the reception. Hope you enjoy the show!
